Section Manager Metallurgical Laboratory

Cleveland Cliffs has an opportunity for a Quality Section Manager of the Metallurgical Laboratory at the Coatesville, PA Plate facilities This Manager leads the Laboratory team to ensure that all plate testing meets stringent customer specifications, working collaboratively with safety, bargaining unit, operations teams, technical experts, outside processors, and customers.
Summary of Responsibilities Manage activities to assure that the plant and department objectives for safety, environment, quality, and cost are being satisfied.
Manage a staff of Technical Salary employees and hourly technicians in mechanical and chemical laboratories preparing and testing plate samples.
Develop and maintain tools, test equipment, employees, and systems, to assure that plate testing meets customer standards for quality.
Support customer audits and perform regular internal quality audits.
Strong emphasis on maintaining certification for the Coatesville plant.
Develop and maintain systems for the collection and distribution of product quality information for the purpose of product grading, product development, process control, and quality assurance.
Interact with customers, various Cliffs organizations, and out-processors to develop and maintain systems for the establishment of customer requirements for product quality.
Review and maintain monthly department budgets.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical field or substantial industrial experience is required.
Manufacturing experience dealing with equipment reliability and department scheduling.
Management experience of both technical employees as well as hourly employees Travel may be required.
Overnight travel of < 5% involving customer and supplier interactions.
Preferred Qualifications Manufacturing or Quality experience in a metals-based industry.
Manufacturing experience dealing with customer specifications and metallurgical industry standards.
Experience with Department of Defense supplier requirements.
