The Chester County Intermediate Unite currently has vacancies for part-time Job Coaches within the Discover Program at the CCIU Learning Center in Coatesville, PA. Students at the CCIU Learning Center spend half of their school day in academic classes and the other half in their pre-vocational shop program. The academic program offers core subject areas, including language arts, social studies, science and mathematics that are designed to meet the learning and educational needs of students. Additionally, eleventh- and twelfth-grade students have an opportunity to participate in a work experience program. The Discover Program offers a comprehensive work-based learning approach related service that prepares high school students with disabilities to transition from school to adult life.
Job coaches accompany students one on one, or in small groups to community business partners to:
  • Teach students soft skills/employment readiness skills in a community-based location given real life, hands-on experiences
  • Identify the student's interests and strengths
  • Assist students in gaining confidence in their abilities
  • Develop work behaviors, problem solving skills, social skills, teamwork and independence
  • Collect data/information on 25 attributes that is shared with student and IEP team for skill development and goal planning

Job Coaches may either meet students at the workplace or be required to drive students in CCIU vans.

Schedule:
  1. We are flexible with the number of work days worked per week, provided you are available for 2 or more days.
  2. For a maximum amount of hours per week (26.25 hours), all five work days would need to be worked (M-F)
  3. Hours per week vary based on number of days scheduled per week and student schedules.
  4. The maximum number of days per year is 180 following a school schedule between late August and midJune.
  5. Summer work may be available for this position, if interested.


Work Hours: Varies by location but are up to 5.25 hours per day for up to 26.25 hours per week. Please note that this position would take place during the school day, not after school or on weekends. An example schedule could be 8:30-1
Exempt Status: Non-exempt position
Salaried or Hourly: Hourly

Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or GED required
- Experience with secondary students preferred
- Experience with autism/special needs population strongly preferred
- Experience with data collection for special education strongly preferred
- Willingness to work in several areas of Chester County
- Current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required upon hire (CCIU to conduct)
  • Must have a valid PA Driver's License with no moving violations for previous three (3) years.
  • Must meet CCIU procedures for transporting students (including motor vehicle record check; please see attached document for more information)

- Current police, child abuse & FBI Fingerprint clearances required upon hire
- Clearance as an MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and the federal government (conducted by the CCIU upon hire)
Pay (2024 - 2025 rates):
$23.00 -$28.75 per hour based on direct experience taking students into the community and teaching job and life skills. Most successful candidates come in at $23.00/hour.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
