Registered Nurse - The Substance Abuse and Residential Rehabilitation Program - Bldg 39
The Staff RN will be responsible for the delivery of quality patient care and nursing services for the culturally diverse residents of a Residential and Rehabilitation Treatment Program (Bldg. 39) which provides specialized substance abuse disorder, mental health treatment, homelessness services for eligible veterans. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the provision of direct patient care, medication administration, supervision of the unit; participation in an interdisciplinary treatment planning process; and effective utilization of program resources. The registered nurse possesses the knowledge and skill to apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative interdisciplinary practice setting. He/she will participate in quality initiatives which improve patient care outcomes on the unit. The applicant must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with veterans and other health care professionals. She/he is responsible for maintaining up to date mandatory training; attending all required in-services, as well as maintaining current BLS certification, and RN licensure. Preferred Experience, 1-2 years experience in Acute Mental Health and/ or Substance Abuse Recovery able to perform the physical techniques as taught in the Prevention and Management of Disturbed Behavior. The Registered Nurse must be able to successfully perform all required duties and functions as described in the functional statement of their position. Work Schedule:

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a relatedfield with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling and pushing. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
