Supervisory Police Officer

This Service provides law enforcement support for the VAMC; as well as subsidiaries which may include cemeteries, business offices, treatments centers, and residential facilities. This position serves as the VAMC Police Service Operations Officer and is required to provide expert advice to the Medical Center Director and Police Service Senior Management as it pertains to operation of the Police Service and related laws, regulations, functions, policies and procedure that would impact the operation of the and its subsidiaries. The incumbent provides technical and administrative supervision to a unit of 4 Supervisory Police Officers GS-0083-08, Detectives GS-0083-07. The incumbent oversees the daily operation of the Police Service, ensures that agency policies and priorities are being followed; develops performance standards; and evaluates work performance of subordinates. The incumbent gives advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters and other duties aa assigned. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-8. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-8 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities. Employees engage in such exertions when responding to alarms, pursuing suspects, or participating in weapons or other kinds of training activities, climbing stairs in office buildings, or walking foot patrols in and around large buildings. In some positions, the work may regularly involve lifting and carrying of heavy objects of 23 kilograms (50 pounds) or less, such as weapons. Some positions may require common physical characteristics and abilities in agility and dexterity and the strength to pursue, apprehend, and detain uncooperative suspects. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
